If you live in Charlotte, Gloucester, Northampton, or Patrick County, you will see an increase in the sales and use taxes you pay starting July 1, 2021.
The rate will go up by 1% in these four counties, for a total of 6.3%. This includes the 4.3% state tax, the 1% local option tax, and the 1% additional tax for each county.
The increase does not apply to food purchases for home consumption (such as groceries) or essential personal hygiene products, which are still taxed at the reduced rate of 2.5%.
